Various species of usnea grow around the world. If you live in a region with trees, chances are you can find usnea lichen. However, since usnea is highly sensitive to air pollution, it only thrives in areas with good air quality.

Herbalists often refer to usnea as "lung lichen," since it can boost the immune system and kill a wide-range of pathogenic microbes that can cause respiratory and other illnesses in humans. Yes, these historical uses are increasingly being substantiated by modern science!
